Security in Baja

Our opinion—our experience from over 30 years—is that Baja is safe for tourists, and Mexico remains a beautiful and affordable destination for travel with friends and family. We do not believe that our staff or our participants are in danger. If we did, we wouldn't travel to Baja either!

The Mexican government is fighting a war against the drug cartels. But in an effort to increase ratings and make more money on advertising, the mass media in the U.S. unfairly exaggerates and over-reports the border violence and does not accurately convey that it is between drug traffickers and police and does not involve tourists.

News is a product, and the audience is the consumer. Media is a business, and advertising is its source of revenue. Advertising is sold, and the price is determined by how popular the media is: the higher the ratings, the higher the price of advertising. Sex sells, but fear sells much better. Think about it: would we be interested in the news if it only reported low prices at the grocery store and what books are available at the public library? Of course not! We want death and destruction, and we want the film at 11:00!!

Our opinion is that consumption creates demand, corruption knows no borders, and tourists are not a target.
